Gathering together over chocolate eggs and camping can bring times of connection and family bonding, but on the flip-side sometimes holiday periods can exacerbate cracks that are starting to appear in family relationships.
Edgar and Wood Managing Partner, Michael Wood said that sadly statistics show that, it’s often after festive seasons and holiday periods that relationship breakdowns occur.
“It seems ironic, but sometimes when you have intensified time together is when you start to realise that it’s not working. If you or someone you know is facing hardship in their family circumstances, we are here to provide advice.
Our first priority is always to make sure everyone in the family is safe and any children involved are settled. The children’s well-being should always come before launching into any financial matters.
When it comes to family breakdowns, it is best to resolve issues through calm negotiation and mediation rather than going down the path of courtroom negotiations.
Mr Wood said it was important not to think every bad camping trip would result in a family breakdown.
“Of course couples can have arguments and rocky periods that can be resolved in a peaceful reconciliation. But if it’s gone past the point of no return, don’t be afraid to consult a solicitor for some advice.”
